I am trying to make some kind of mark daily that isn't influenced by commerce or ego. Its important, I believe, to try to make pure images unhindered by any factors which may corrupt them.
Here's a picture I've done for a friend's friend's wedding present. Nice to play with watercolour again, I should do a big watercolour and let the paint run and mingle.
Two more images for this Wild Things parody. The story is that the media have made Paris, Britney et al into monsters so they've decided to run away and hide where the real wild things live. Our boy Max falls for Paris because she is the wildest one of all, or something along those lines. I didn't write it just drew the piccies.
I'm doing a modernisation of the Where the Wild Things Are for MAD magazine. Maurice Sendak is probably my favourite and most influential illustrator. Once you start trying to emulate his line work and hatching you almost begin to fall into despair because it is so damn hard - I'm enjoying the challenge though.
Its been months since my last post I've been too caught up in day to day commerce and have neglected my own artistic pursuits, I recently purchased an amazing book
Sketchbooks: The Hidden Art of Designers, Illustrators and Creatives (Hardcover)
and it has fired me up to make sure I keep that inner life feed. This was a day trip to the city which turned into a day of exploring and walking around with a camera and a new journal to break in.
I have a love hate relationship with my journals, sometimes I can look at them and be really happy at what has been put there - other times if I am feeling a bit hopeless the pages seem to be taunting me and rubbing my nose in my own ineptitude.
